  • Research--Transgenic and knock out mice, cardiovascular development and gene regulation
  • My current work and future goals seek to better understand the genetic basis of cardiovascular development using mouse genetic models. The most immediate goal will be the continued utilization of mouse genetics, molecular biology and biochemical approaches to further reveal the function of COUP-TFII and the genetic pathways through which it acts to control heart development. My long-term goals include exploration novel genes, which are functional associated with cardiovascular development, elucidation of the genetic networks and underlying mechanism. The mechanisms that underlie the morphogenic processes forming a heart have important implications not only for understanding congenital heart disease, but also for the possibility of cardiac repair. Eventually this knowledge will enable us to improve and prevent the corresponding diseases.
